The Accelerated Reader Program motivates students to read for pleasure and challenge. It also helps to track their reading progress through computerized comprehension testing.

ID Card

All students are required to place their ID cards in the upper right hand corner of the computer keyboard when taking an AR Quiz. Students will not be able to take an AR Quiz without their ID cards . If you have lost your ID card, it is your responsibility to replace it.

Steps

1. Find an AR book
2. Read the Book
3. Come to the Library to take Quiz on Book
4. Get printout of results (PASS - get points --- FAIL - get zero points )

Books

AR Labels

1. AR PTS= Accelerated Reader Points Example:

AR PTS 5 = Testing Points is 5
AR PTS 23 = Testing Points is 23

2. AR RL = Accelerated Reader Reading Level Example:

AR RL 9.5 = Reading Level is 9 th Grade 5 th Month
AR RL 11.9 = Reading Level is 11 th Grade 9 th Month

3. Note: There will be instances where some books will not have AR stickers and other instances where an AR sticker will be present but it will not be an AR book. Although those instances are rare, it will be the STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY to check the AR List from the computer to make sure that they are reading an AR book! It is not the LMT or the teacher’s responsibility.

Quiz Taking Directions

1. Type the letters "AR" for username and leave the password blank.
2. Click mouse or hit any key to continue
3. Click on your teachers name with the corresponding period
4. Find your name and double click on it
5. The computer will ask for your password

Passwords

*Your password is your birthday (if you don’t know the date of your birthday, you’ve got
problems )

Example: July 5, 1988 = 070588
February 11, 1987 = 021187
December 2, 1986 = 120286


Your Account

You have three options that you will regularly use:

a) “Take Reading Practice Quizzes” -- This is where you go to take the quiz for the book that you have read. If you click on this button, a list of book titles will come up. Simply find the title of your book and take the quiz.

b) “View Student Record Report” -- You can check your overall standings by pushing this button. (Read the directions!!!)

c) “Logout” -- This button will simply log you out of the system. You must push this all the time when you are finished.

Warning

Any student who is caught cheating in this program will have all of his/ her test scores “zeroed” out. Please do not be tempted to do anything that may jeopardize the hard work that you might have put into this program by doing a friend a favor by taking a test for them. You will both lose out.

Teachers

1. All teachers will be able to request class and student progress reports from Mr. Lee.
2. All classes have the option of administering the STAR Reading portion of the AR Program. The STAR Reading Program is a simple 25 question multiple-choice test that is designed to assess student reading ability and assign reading levels. This test is normally given once or twice a year. If you want to do this, please notify Mr. Lee.
3. AR lists are available at the Hollywood High Library's website.

Notes:

1. You are allowed to take a quiz only once.
2. You cannot stop in the middle of the quiz.
3. All students will receive a printout of their test results at the end of every quiz.
